Commenting on the launch of the book, the author explained during a recent interview:

"The term 'Self-mastery' has a very special connotation here. In the first few pages of the book, I go to some lengths in defining it as the extent to which we are able to holistically, unconditionally, and continuously observe specific manifestations in ourselves in order to acquire self-knowledge. Using this self-knowledge, to next struggle successfully against our mechanicalness so that we transform ourselves into conscious and free human beings, concerned with both our own and others' welfare."

Eric Charoux adds:

Gurdjieff, in the areas of self-awareness and self-mastery.
